The probationary status that placed on our undergraduate medical education
program in 2009 was lifted in June 2011. The good news came from our
accreditors: the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Committee on
Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools. Our success directly relates to
the hard work and common purpose that our faculty, staff and students
applied to our remediation efforts over those two years. Special thanks are
due to the more than 600 of our faculty members in three provinces who put
our new curriculum together in time to introduce it in the Fall of 2011 to
our first-year students. This important work was instrumental in
fast-tracking our remediation activity. Our next full review will be in six
to eight years, at the end of the normal accreditation cycle. In the
meantime our accreditors will return in the Spring of 2012 to follow up on
our continued work to ensure full compliance. |
